sunday bread (wheat loaf)

{photo coming soon}

I tried to make a wheat bread last week. Little did I realize that wheat bread requires more than just wheat flour, so even thought I had bought wheat flour this time, I was all out of white flour and had to use all wheat even though it called for both. It came out pretty delicious actually but it didn’t rise much and didn’t look that great. So I wanted to try again this week because I’m determined to make a really yummy, moist, fluffy wheat bread.

It came out pretty well this time. I used a recipe I found online and loosely went off that. Since it was a recipe for how to do it in a bread machine and I didn’t follow it exactly I’m not even bothering to link to it, I’m just going to explain what I did.

Ingredients:

1 Cup lukewarm water

2 Teaspoons yeast

1 Tablespoon of milk

2 Tablespoons of oil

2 ½ Tablespoons honey

1 Tablespoon brown sugar

A sprinkle of salt

2 Cups whole wheat flour

1 Cup white flour

Dissolve the yeast in the water by stirring until it’s gone. Add milk, honey, oil, sugar and salt and stir until it is all dissolved and combined. Add both flours and mix until incorporated. Dump out onto floured counter and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Form into a ball and let sit in a lightly oiled bowl, covered with a cloth, for about an hour to rise. Punch down and place in oiled loaf pan. Let sit under cloth for another hour or until it has risen above the pan or however tall you want it to be really. It doesn’t really rise in the oven at all so make sure to wait until it has gotten as high as you want it before you bake it. Then bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until hollow when knocked.

So easy!!
